Manon Rhéaume, “The First Woman of Hockey”, was the first and only female to play in an NHL game with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 1992. She was also the first female to sign a contract to play profesional hockey which lead to a six year professional career in the minor leagues. 

 

As a member of of Team Canada, Manon helped lead her team to a silver medal at the 1998 Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan. This was the first time in Olympic history where women’s hockey was an official event. Aside from the Olympics, as Team Canada’s goaltender, Manon won Gold Medals at the 1992 and 1994 World Hockey Championships. In both of these events she was named the “best goaltender”.

 

Manon has also appeared in national media on numerous occasions including: “The Today Show”, “Late Night with David Letterman”, “CBS This Morning”, “ESPN”, “Good Morning America”, “Entertainment Tonight”, “MTV’s House of Style”, “A Current Affair”, “Maury Povich”, and “NBC Sports”.
